Cairo in a Box

Created by students at the Tawasol Foundation School

Heba led workshops with students at the Tawasol Foundation school and following initial discussions about the objects they thought could be included in their box they walked around the city streets together seeking more inspiration. The objects inside the box are a wonderful reflection of the colour, noise and smells of the Cairo streetscape and some have been created especially for the box by a local craftsperson.

More about the box

Watch Heba’s presentation of the ‘Cairo in a Box’ at our first annual symposium.

The English translations for the objects in the box curated by the students at Tawasol Foundation School were recorded by Amira and Aya – sisters who live in Melbourne, Australia, the home of the ‘Our Story in a Box’ Project. We hope through this box they feel a connection with the cultural traditions so familiar to their family. Thank you to everyone who was involved in the creation of this box!
